We had to check out of Camp Waipu Cove at 10am this morning so we were soon back on the road up north. The scenery is so beautiful out here - very green and hilly. If it wasn't for the warm and sunny weather we could be in Ireland! Speaking of the weather, it's so strange to see Christmas decorations up in the streets during "summertime".
The first place we stopped at was Whangarei Falls - apparently New Zealand's most photographed waterfall. Despite some heavy rain we managed to have a good walk around the falls and along to the AH Reed Memorial Park where we board walked amongst the Kauri trees.
We decided to take the scenic route on to Paihia - our final destination for the day at the Bay of Islands Holiday Park, where we will be staying for two nights. The drive was pretty tough along very windy and hilly roads that our campervan isn't really exactly geared up for.
The campsite seems lovely and peaceful - nestled by the Waitangi River. We've just been for a good 7 mile run along a hilly coastal path from Paihia towards Opua. It felt SO good to be running again!
