Wow, we made it! After 29 hours of travelling and 3 different flights, we're still finding it hard to believe that we are actually on the other side of the world in New Zealand. The journey wasn't as bad as I was expecting, although the flight to Dubai was quite turbulent and the 13 hour flight to Sydney wasn't great considering the fact the one of our TV screens didn't work at all - what a joke! We complained about it but the flight attendant couldn't fix it. He offered me a seat at the back of the plane on my own - so annoying as if that one free seat wasn't there we would have been upgraded to business class, gutted!
Phil slept a little more than me but we're both shattered. We got an airport shuttle to our posh hotel for the evening - the Rendezvous Grand. We were more desperate to stretch our legs than to sleep so we had a good walk around the city and a much needed coffee and cake. First impressions of Auckland? Very hilly, a bit American looking, beautiful harbour, but where are all the people? New Year's Day hangovers perhaps...
We had a nap after coffee - BIG mistake. Getting up for dinner later was torture. The burrito place we'd eyed up for dinner was shut, as were most other places offering a quick bite. All we wanted to do was go back to bed so I'm ashamed to say we grabbed a Burger King and did just that!
