I spent the morning relaxing at Blue Corner and was finally able to move into their dorm room (although I had very much enjoyed my private room!). After lunch I decided to go and explore the island; I just cannot believe my time in Indonesia - and in fact Asia - has come to an end.
I walked the whole way down the coast along the beach until there was no longer a path, and then moved more inland to follow the mountain roads. I walked to Panorama Point where the view of the whole island was stunning. I decided to attempt to walk to dream beach, a famous white sand beach with crystal blue sea and huge waves, even though it was pretty far away. Luckily a buggy driver stopped me and asked if I needed transport, and one I explained to him that I was trying to walk the whole way because I had very little rupiah left (and there are no ATMs on the island anyway) he kindly offered to take me there and pick me up to return me back to the Main Street for only 50 rupiah (£2). He was a very friendly guy and we chatted for the whole drive.
Once at dream beach I was so glad I decided to see a little more of the island. The beach was beautiful with sand so white and sea so blue and clear. Waves crashed against the rocks and sand and made a glorious sound. The only resort on the beach had two infinity pools - one leading to the other one and that one looking out into the ocean. It was paradise! I set up there for a few hours listening to the waves whilst sunbathing and wishing I never had to leave.
I went for a wander around the cliff edge and found Devil's Tear, a break in the rocks leaving a cove in which waves crash with such force a spray is given off by the water, making the entire area look magical with what looks like smoke or clouds rising from the ocean. It really was incredible and people say that often the effect given off is a rainbow (but I didn't see a rainbow). The water is so crystal clear and bright blue you can see all the rocks beneath the surface making it extremely tempting to jump right in - if death wasn't certain! I stood there for ages watching the waves and being showered by the spray; the views from this area were breathtaking also. You are advised to never swim in this area unless you are the strongest of swimmers due to the rapidly changing current and force of the waves hitting the rocks and shore. It was thrilling watching young Indonesian kids surf here!
When the driver returned to pick me up he bought me a beer, which I later kinda regretted accepting as he begged me to go for dinner and drinks with him that evening. I politely declined but was grateful for his kindness of dropping me back to my hostel - and the Bintang! I had fried rice for dinner, I'm going to miss Indonesian food so much, and watched my final island sunset whilst chatting to some people which was so beautiful and pink it just looked like the sky had been photoshopped! Indonesia really is a photographers dream.
