Up early. Went to see the Cuchi tunnels that were used during the Vietnam War and were the Viet Cong's base of operations for the Tet Offensive in 1968.
The tunnels were used by the Viet Cong guerrillas as hiding places during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches and living quarters for numerous guerrilla fighters. It was these tunnels that the Americans could not overpower and was the reason that eventually decided to withdraw.
There were parts of the tunnels that you could scurry through and they were tiny, you couldnt even bend in half and straighten your knees which made it quiet unconfortable to do. Interestingly these tunnels have also been widened for Westerners so I wouldn't like to know how small they were before. This gave the Vietnamese a huge advantage over the pot bellied Americans.
Went to the National War Museum in the afternoon which was really good but far too busy as everyone is still off work and on their holidays out here. Headed back to the hotel and had a shower in Sue's room as we are all leaving tonight and she is going home. Went for coffee and grabbed a sandwich for on the train. Said goodbye to Sue and got on the train. Lots of beer and rice wine and didn't get to bed until late. Slept OK but up at 5am
