Monday we headed to Murchinson Falls to see the Worlds most powerful waterfall.
Murchinson is located in the Northern part of Uganda and I think it's the hottest area in Uganda. Temperatures range from 37-45degrees!
It was a whole day travelling there, a long and bumpy journey! In England when they are speed bumps they are spaced out between but here in Uganda they is about a car size gap between each one. They dont understand that by spacing them out it will still slow the driver down! :) We endured 4km of speed bumps and apparently that road, they'd actually cut down the amount of speed bumps there!
So after a day travelling we turned up at Red Chilli campsite, where we were going to be spending the next 2 nights in a tent, it was lovely. We were warned about Wart Hogs that roam and for no food to be kept in the tent, as they would just rip it apart! Also Hippos could be found wondering around, although we weren't lucky enough to see any in camp. Did you know Hippos kill more humans than any other animal!
Tuesday we found out we were going on a game drive, which was a nice suprise as Vic and me thought we had just paid to see a waterfall :)
We saw Elephants, Lions, Giraffes, Wilderbeast and different types of Antelope/Deer. We then caught a boat upriver were we saw so many Hippos, Water Buffalo, Crocodiles and many different colourful birds including the Ugandan Egale and The Crested Crane. I was really pleased to see a Crested Crane as it's the National bird :)
We didn't go to the bottom of the falls in the boat but instead trekked to the top! Took around an hour and was quite an easy walk, luckily! The power behind the water was incredible, just dropping down with such force it was mind blowing. On the way up it rained so hard, so we were soaked but the waterfall gave off a warm mist and it was quite stuffy up there.
That night after dinner Vic and me were back in the tent and Winnie (Winnie was our lovely tour guide) came and gave us a bowl of pineapple. Getting ready for bed we heard some grunts, a Wort Hog had smelt us! You've never seen anyone eat pineapple so fast, we gobbled it down and sprayed the tent trying to get the scent away. Scary times :)
Wednesday we headed back to Kampala but not before doing some Chimpanze trekking.
There is only a 20% chance of seeing any but it must of been a good day, as 1/2 an hour in we spotted 7 up in the trees :) When finding Chimps you get an hour with them so we stood necks cranned up, waiting for them to come down. But our guide said because it had been raining they didn't like the mildew and would probably stay up there and that they did! :)
It was great little trip, we really enjoyed ourselves and Winnie, our guide made it that extra special, she was a lovely lady and we've exchanged emails :)
Saturday we are heading to Bwindi Forest to go Gorilla trekking. Cannot wait! We spoke to a guy called on Sunday at Backpackers who went and he only trekked for an hour and half, which is very good as you can trekk up to 9 hours! His photos were incredible, got me very excited :)
Today we went to Owino market. What an experience! It's all second hand items but it's great. I bought some brown trousers from H&M ;) As usual it's very cheap and it is all good quality. Will be heading back there quite often :)
Hopefully I'll be able to get online on the 22nd after Gorillas, so speak soon :)
Lots of Love xxx
