We took the the yellow cable car from St Theresa to downtown. Went through the local market - very busy. Then we got a taxi to Sugar Loaf mountain. Awesome views watching planes land at a local airport. Back to Casa Cool Beans and then back out to do the pub tour with Rio Eats. We meet Tom who started Rio Eats. He was taking the evening tour. Friday - Eat Rio tour. We meet at 10am. V for Vinícius was our guide. Another amazing experience. He had us eating and drinking from the very start - a beer at 11 and a Caipirinha (local amazingly yummy drink) at midday - there was food also - all local treats. Lots of walking (felt less guilty!), subway trip, and we ended with a late lunch and more glasses of local liquor. Back to our digs for siesta then a local caipirinha and snack.

Thursday we had Marco as our guide for the day. He was impressive - ex school teacher of geography and history and a local. We got the works. Brilliant day. Local dinner out.

Arrived Rio and got a taxi to Casa Cool Beans - in Santa Teresa. Very “cool” B&B in a old area in the hills. It is very steep, stairs and cobbled streets everywhere. We settled in and headed out for a local dinner. Everyone warns about Rio and security. DON’T wear any jewellery, watches, don’t display your cellphone, wallet - basically keep it basic and don’t look like a tourist - who are targets.
