Day 65 (Saturday 9th Feb 08)
Another early morning to be ready for 8am bus to Hoi An. Bus arrived on time just after we finished a quick breakfast and we walked down the road with our bags and got on. We went round picking up from other hotels and then set off for Hoi An. As we were driving out of Hue we saw where an accident had just happened - a lorry had gone off the side of the road and everyone had stopped to try and sort it out, that filled us with confidence! Luckily our journey was fine and the driver on this bus was acutally a lot better than some we have been on! The scenery was amazing and we stopped about half way for a toliet stop and somewhere people could get food if they wanted. We were then on our way again and arrived in Hoi An at about 12 noon. Got dropped outside a hotel and found out they had rooms for $10 so we were happy with that and went and had a look. The rooms were very nice and a lot nicer than what we had had so we checked in and took our bags upstairs. Dug our washing out of our bags and gave that in as it was much needed! We then went out to find something for lunch and then for a wander around to see what was going on and try to find Skype. Then went back to the hotel to see about using the internet as it was free so thought we would have another go at uploading our photos. Luckily it worked here so got everything updated! Took quite a while though as usual! Decided again to go and have another look for Skype but without any luck. After a longtime of searching gave up and went for something to eat and a beer at Treat's Cafe. Very good meal and nice to chill out. Back to the hotel to quick use the internet and get some sleep after another early morning.
Day 66 (Sunday 10th Feb 08)
Another 6am start as we decided we would try and get on the tour to My Son to see the ruins which left at 8am. Luckily there was still room so booked on and ordered some fruit for breakfast. The bus arrived at 8am and then we went around other hotels picking up the rest of the people for the tour. We had about an hour and a half drive to My Son. Bought tickets and into shuttle buses to take us nearer to the ruins. We then had time to wander around the different sections which was very interesting. Got some good pictures and saw some amazing scenery as well as the amazing ruins. Back at the bus for 11:30am and then another drive to the lake for our boat tour back to Hoi An. All squeezed onto the boat by about 1pm and given a plate of vegetable fried rice for our lunch. Then started off along the river. Was nice to see but was not as impressive scenery as on Hue river cruise. Stopped at a handicarft village to see lots of nice things we could buy! Knew we had to resist as no space to carry things! Carried on our boat cruise back to the docks at Hoi An. Walked back through the old town to the hotel looking again for Skype but still no luck. Used the internet again - making the most of it as its free. Chatted to an interesting lady from Vermont. Chilled out for a while and then went across the road to one of the little cheap restaurants which she has recommended. Had a very good vegetable curry.
Day 67 (Monday 11th Feb 08)
Planning to have a lie in this morning but didn't really happen as I think our body clocks have got used to waking up early and it was quite noisy. Watched some TV and then got up, had a shower and went for something to eat. Mark gave in to his meat cravings and had some bacon which he really enjoyed and encouraged him to try some more meat. Walked down to the Old City to see some of the sights and look in some of the shops which all sell such nice things! Very tempted but we were good. Found a nice little French cafe and bought a couple of Pain au Chocolates. They were really good and very nice to have some chocolate which we haven't had in ages! Walked around for a while longer and then headed back to the hotel. Used the internet yet again and uploaded the photos we had taken. Went out to Re-Treat's Cafe for some good cheap food and a beer. Mark had meat again - tried some beef which was good - well we hope it was beef!
