fri 25th July up early and hoped there was a seat for us on the busabout bus to ancona. because we had already done the loops we have to be on standby every time we need to do the loop so its a little stressful not knowing if we can get on the bus not. arrived in the worst place on the world for the 3rd time in my life (first time was to catch the ferry to croatia, then we copped it on the way back too) quiclky got onto the ferry and oh my god, this isnt one of the ferrys we have in Perth, no siry this one even had a night club and a pool on it. we met another travelling couplem spent the day and night exchanging stories and card games, tucked ourselfved up in a corner on our new lylos and didnt get off the ferry until 3pm the next day. already feeling crappy we then had to find the bus station, walked with our bags which felt like 1 km and then ride the busiest bus ever for just over 3 hours. theeeeeeen we got off the bus and had to catch 2 trains to then walk another bloody kilometer to finally find our hostel. HOLY CRAP what a day of freak travel. we then checked into our room, and funny enough they over booked the hostel and a couple canceled so therefore stacey and i got to share a private double to ourselves, wow what a treat to not be in another dorm room. so of course as soon as we arrived m our bags then threw up on themselves and our contents just covered the entire room. had a well needed shower and crawled into bed.the next day was spend on the computer doing some needed internet time and finally sorted all ouf our photos we have taken this trip, i couldn't even tell you how many but i know we have one and more then a half dvd's full of photos, had a quick walk around athens town, where we were staying and we had definatly hit slumville. athens stinks and is like the ugliest town i think i have ever been too, i was so excited about somming here because of the greek history but so far a real disapointment. run down buildings, piss all over the walls in alley ways and loads of homeless people everywhere. delicious souvlaki but and sooooo cheap, only 2 euro for one so of course i think we had 3 that day. retreat back to the hostel for more internet and resting before tomorrow.the next day we woke up what we though was an hour earlier before our walking tour of athens began, but both forgetting that athens in an hour infront of italy, we woke up 10 mins before we had to leave ahaha. now the athens walking tour, where can i begin, the guy who took us greeted us with a coffee in his hand, already making slightly inappropriate jokes and a book about athens in the other hand. the first stop was the temple of zuse, stacey and i watched him read the information about the ancient building before we got there and pretty much remembered what we thought it would of said, word for word, no other awsome facts and we have still yet to have our socks blown off by ancient greek history. went through 3 other ancient artifacts and our tour guides struggled to answer half of our questions, and when he did answer them, the answerers didnt really make any sense to what we really asked, so i guess he couldnt answer any questions. most frustrating tour guide in the world. we watch the guards change over out the front of parliament, and that was a show and a half. guys dressed in skirts and stockings, apparently takes an hour to for them to get ready properly and their shoes weiged over 7 pound each. they then cannot blink or use any facial expressions for an hour, they march really slowly while kicking their legs pretty dam high in the air and it is only males that can do it. found out they dont get paid and it is an honour for greek men to do it, they tehn get fed and their housing for free. so 1 hour to get ready, 1 hour to serve infront of parlimant, one hour to undress and wash, then they sleep for 5 hours before they have to get up and do it all again, crazy facts. we then walked way up to the acropolis and that was amazing, and a disappointment at the same time, amazing to think they built it that long ago and the history behind it, but a huge disappointment to see that they are re-building ruins, which i didnt think they could do!! stinking hot day, people everywhere and slippery marble on the ground that i nearly ate s*** on. quite a few times actually. we saw it then left as quickly as we could get out of it. i learnt more from my lonely planet book then i did from that stupid tour guide, but hey he got his money and left, i guess that is ll that matters. that evening, more time on the net and finally called home for the first time in nearly 3 months, for my dads birthday, then early to bed. another big day of traveling to mykonos tomorrow.
