We have booked a 3 night 2 day trekking tour to sapa, 10-12 hours north of Hanoi. Last night was our first night of the tour- the night on the sleeper bus to get here which arrived at 8 this morning(so this is classed as our first day). We then got a shower and breakfast at the hotel before setting off on our first trek. Although breakfast was disgusting; who serves spaghetti carbonara and rice and potatoes in cheese and cream sauce for breakfast- so after a few bread rolls we we're off. It was our half day trek which was about 5km I think, we went through tribal villages and rice fields to where we reached an amazing waterfall. All through the trek there we're women and children all trying to sell us souvenirs and tacky things and one woman must have done half the trek with us and every few minutes reminded us that if we needed anything we go to her, she was 'mama sasa' - she made me pinky promise her which is a big deal over here, after that mama sasa left us alone. Afterwards heading on our way back they showed us the indigo plants which grow everywhere and that's what they use to colour souvenirs and clothes ect. The women leading our tour we're from a tribe which all wore indigo outfits- and all the women's hands we're died blue from making them! When we arrived back at the hotel it was for a late lunch- which was a little more nicer and appropriate food this time. We then had free time to explore the town so we rented motorbikes with some people we met and headed for another waterfall at the top of the mountain however the weather was so bad we had to turn around and came back looking like we had jumped in the waterfall fully clothed. Then it was time for tea which was nice and then I went for a foot bath and massage while Jordan went and had his fun messing around on the motorbike (getting his money's worth as he put it). Tommorow we are up early again for our 12km trek! Very exciting and the views you see are unbelievable, it doesn't look real, it's like something you see on google but right infront of you!
