Today we visited the Cu Chi tunnels, about 2 hours out of the centre of Ho Chi Minh. These are the tunnels which the Vietnamese used during the war to communicate and hide from the north and the American bombers. The tunnels are tiny, I could only just fit, the openings are 30cm by 60cm and the tunnels only slightly wider. The tunnel network stretches all the way to the Cambodian border and also had parts which had several storeys underground for living with kitchens, keeping weapons and small hospital/nursing areas. There was sections of the tunnels which had been reinforced and made wider for tourists to be able to go down, although not much wider. You could go down the tunnels and crawl for 40m with a stop if you wanted to get out after 20m- which I did as there was a very rude German couple infront who insisted on holding up the whole group by taking hundreds of photos which made me feel trapped and clostrphobic. I ended up shouting at them to move because I wanted to get out haha. Anyway after the slight panic we got to go to a shelter and eat some of the food they would've eaten back then, it was pretty minging and just tasted like half cooked potato dipped in salt. Later on still at the tunnels we went and saw on the weapons and traps that they used back then and got to shoot a real gun!!!! We shot an M16 whatever what of those is, we had 5 bullets each and I actually managed to hit a target and so did jord, I was very pleased with myself after that! Then on our way back to HCMC we stopped at the famous Ben Thanh market, where they had absolutley everything you could think of and we got treated like royalty. Jord got a really nice Ralph Lauren shirt which was about 200000dong, about £5, and you can't really tell any difference from the real thing, even the material is really nice. We then walked back to the hotel for some much needed air con as I was nearly melting by this point!
