Picked up the car today, A dark gray Toyota Camry. Lovely, big and comfy.
We decided to push along with the drive, but stopped as a necessity at the chicken shack for brekkie.
I know I'm a veggie, but the ladies were nice enough to do me an egg and cheese muffin, on the clean side of the hot plate.
The 220 miles drive took the best part of the day, however there was so much beautiful scenery it was never boring. A beautiful sunny day and wide open roads.
The roads are so wide here, and we saw hardly any traffic considering it was a Bank Holiday.
Plenty grows here it is the tropics after all. We saw pineapples, bananas, paw-paws and more sugar cane than you can ever imagine. As far a the eye could see it was!
We encountered many creeks along the Bruce Highway, they had some lovely and some unusual names, we listed those we came across. Maybe I can get a book out of Creeks I have Encountered, who knows!
We saw an interesting sign for The Murdering Point Winery. We had to investigate! A small winery, family owned. It produces wines and port from local fruits.
Delicious!
I know I tried most of them. James was driving, so had to be content with a small snifter. Purchased a couple o' bottles, to support the local business!
Onward to Mission Beach. OMG! there was no one there, and on an Easter Sunday! It was wall to wall sunshine.
I was amazed (i've been amazed a lot on this holiday)
The water was as warm as a bath. No swimming though, it's the stinger season. So frustrating! Still did a bit of careful paddling instead.
The beautifully clean car is now full of sand, James doesn't care. He doesn't have to hoover it out!!!
On to Townsville.
Well it's a good job it was just a stop on the way to Airlie. It's a tired little place, and I could find nothing to recommend it. In its defence it was Easter Sunday and almost everywhere was closed.
Thank-goodness for Subway, or I might have starved.
Lets blow this town early and head to Airlie!!!!!
