Today we left Esch and we are now in Strasbourg. The train was so old and had dark mustard yellow curtains and next to no ventilation. The journey was about 2.5 hours and it wasn't that busy. At one of the stops a woman got on with her daughter and she was an absolute nightmare! She must have been about 4 and was running around, sticking her head out of opening windows, trying to open the train door and she even tried to unzip our bags at one point. Other than that the journey was quite straightforward.
When we got to Strasbourg station we had to get another train to a small station about a mile from our hotel, otherwise we would have had to walk 2.5 miles with our rucksacks on our back! The mile to our hotel was maybe the longest, toughest walk of both of our lives. Between 4 and 7 it is the hottest part of the day. And obviously Europe is currently having the heatwave from hell, so it was around 37 degrees with no shade. I was wiping sweat our my eyes and could feel droplets running down my face - lovely! Whilst our hotel is in Strasbourg it is 2.5 miles away from the centre, so there aren't many restaurants or places to eat nearby.
Our room is nice, we FINALLY have a kitchenette and a fridge so we can put drinks in it and drink them at a temperature below 25 degrees!
At about 5:30 we started to walk back towards the station where we saw a couple of places to eat on the way. We've been trying to stick to having one meal a day to save money so we end up realising we're hungry and then being ravenous all of a sudden. We got to the place that looked nicest and it wasn't open until 7. There was a brand new pizzeria there aswell so we went in there instead because we couldn't wait to eat.
The man was really friendly and we spoke for a while in French. He asked where I was from because he thought we were Italian. Must have been my red and white skin that gave him that impression!! For less than 10€ you got a good sized pizza, a drink and pudding. I was looking at the drinks, and all of a sudden a light shone through the windows and landed on one drink in particular: 7 Up Mojito. I literally couldnt believe my eyes. Seriously. We went to our table and I cracked it open. The first sip may have been the highlight of the trip so far. It was SO amazing. It's non alcoholic (boo) but had the complete flavour of a mojito. I had two bottles of it! For pudding we shared a fruit salad and a cookie (balanced diet). Then we walked a mile back in the heat!
We slept on top of the duvet last night, it was 27 degrees at one in the morning! What is this madness!
We have downloaded a pedometer app, today we did 8600 steps!
