This morning couldn't have ran any smoother than it did! We woke up to a beautiful sunny morning in Barcelona got dressed and walked a few meters to Las Ramblas to get a taxi! Within 2 minutes we were in a taxi and on our way! We got to the airport and within 5 minutes we were checked in and ready to hop on the plane! I couldn't believe our luck :) allowing 30 minutes for taxi and around the same for check in we were well in time for boarding! We went and sat down and got some breakfast before waiting to board. The flight went really quickly! Well for me anyway... I fell asleep on Simon's lap :) ha ha. When we arrived in Athens we went straight to the train station and got a ticket in to town. We walked down to the platform to find a train waiting for us - no waiting at all!! The train took us in to town where we changed lines and got dropped in the centre of Athens! Our hotel was about 200m away from the metro so we had no trouble at all finding our accommodation! It was in perfect location! It was basic, but clean, massive bed, own bathroom and air conditioning! We quickly put our things down and set out to do some site seeing! We stopped in to a cafe for lunch getting a whole meal for 3€ each!! I'm loving how cheap Greece is! It's definitely helping my poor bank account at this time of the trip! We walked down the main road looking at the fresh food markets, flea market and finally coming to Ancient Greece - Acropolis. It's fascinating what it use to
be like and the views from the top are
amazing! Athens is surrounded by mountains and the city itself is spread out across the bottom and in the distance you can see the ocean! It was so hot and I made the mistake of wearing my maxi skirt! I cooked! On the way back down we stopped at a little shop and each had a frozen lemonade. It was exactly what we needed! We then wandered back to our hotel for a siesta! We fit a few hours sleep in before going out for dinner! For dinner I had a Greek salad and Simon had his third kebab for the day! He enjoyed them so much he had 2 for lunch! Ha ha. We have an early start in the morning! We're off to the Greek islands - starting in Ios! :)
