Ellen's Mini Adventure!
Hello All,
Well, just a quickie to say that i have arrived safe and sound in Patong, Phuket......where i will be for the next month. Yes, that's right, a whole month without lifting my back pack, a whole month of actually living out of a wardrobe, and a whole month of sleeping in the same bed.........pure luxury after so long i can tell you!!
We arrived late last night, after a slightly delayed flight from Bangkok. We were met at the airport by Nick (a friend of Robs that i had met on my last visit to Phuket) and his dad Ian (the owner of the school i am attending). It was fantatsic as we arrived at close to midnight, and they took us straight to a hotel that they had booked for us, with air con and tv and was a welcome relief, especially as we expected to spend all day today house hunting...............
However..........the hotel that Ian had booked us into is right next door to the school.....literally......so Anja and i split up and walked along the parade of guesthouses in the hope of finding somewhere nice and in our budget for the next month.......and the first place i go, My Thai Guesthouse, i manage to wangle a fantastic room, air con, large satellite tv, huge shower, hot water, two big beds, huge windows, large airy room, two minute walk from the beach and bars.....for a total of 8000 baht between us for the month (so 50 quid each!!) bargain!!! Includes towels and full facilities and the staff are fantastic and the owner is a lovely Aussie Tony....so the whole 'house hunting' scenario was pretty short lived and we moved in straight away!!!!
Although we do not have a telephone directly in our room, we do have access to receive calls at the guest house as and when we like. So......if any of you get a chance in the next month, until the 27th June, would be lovely to hear from you.......the best time to call is any time between 2pm and 8pm UK time, although cant guarantee i will be in every evening at this time, the staff are great and sure you can leave a message if you get someone whose english is ok, and i can call you back......that is our evening time here, and no doubt we will be studying.......no time for drinking and late nights now!!!! (yeah right ;-) ).
My room number is 10, and the telephone number here is 006676346419. When the person answers do not be put off by their Thai, just ask for 'Room Number 10', and i think with it being low season here they will be well aware that its us Brits you want to talk to!! ha. Even if you drop me an email to say when you will be calling, i will make sure i am in.
So with accommodation sorted, we paid Ian a visit at the school to get our timetable and find out how things work etc...........
It is all extremely well organised and efficient, we were given a clear run down of our study times..... (Monday-Friday 10am - 7pm!!! arrgghhhhh!), when our exams are to take place (7 exams altogether....arrgghhhhh) and the different teaching modules we will be completing.......is all very exciting, and both Anja and I are really looking forward to Monday now to get started. There is only three of us on the course, so pretty much one-on-one tuition, and the other girl is a fellow English girl, so that will be nice. We left the school having been given an extremely geeky school satchel, including text books, pens, pencils, paper....the lot!! They really do set you up for this teaching malarky here!
So, just a brief update, and to let you know that im not homeless and all is set to go very well this coming month....so long as i knuckle down and pass!!
Hope you are all well, and i will be in touch soon, we have internet facilities at easy access now, including msn, so if you want to plan an msn conversation time that is easy enough too!!
Off now to meet two of the girls i met in India, Sophie and Steph, will be great to see some familiar faces, and they have just finished travelling Australia and New Zealand, so plenty of tips to get off them im sure.
Lots of love, Ellen x
