Today was rather unproductive in terms of surgeries and births, we spent a lot of the day waiting for doctors that we could shadow so eventually we went to the ob/gyn ward where babies were having their blood taken for testing of various viruses. The mothers blood and amniotic fluid are tested while she is pregnant however 48 hours after the baby is born they are also tested. After this we got to cuddles the babies. Today as we arrived at the hospital our doctor that we were shadowing throughout the day rushed us over to the Labour Ward as there was a mother who was 9cm and was keen to have her baby. However when we arrived at the Labour Ward we were told that it could be another 30 minutes until we were allowed in as the mother was quite distressed.
