Spent today going to places in Yangon that I don’t think Sheila will want to see as it would be a shame to spend time looking at the same things twice. Yangon is a mixture of very old, decrepit and very new. The buildings are often covered with moss and in the oldest part of town there is a definite feeling of distressed grandeur.
When it comes to the roads, It is very SE Asian in that the green light, or indeed the red light, is an indication only however they do stick to the right side of the road.
The pagoda in the picture is not Sule but Botataung. As normal when I asked for directions on how to get there I was told it was too far to walk - it took 20 mins. As you can see it was under wraps which actually added rather detracted. I love the fact it was not covered with metal scaffolding and green plastic but bamboo poles and hessian. The inside was pure gold and I mean all the walls were covered in gold not that it was just gorgeous- which it was. In all the buildings there was a monk, The one in the photo was trying very hard to look at his smart phone without anyone seeing him.
Also tried Myanma coffee - not sure the taste was worth the western price I paid for it. However the performance was, it was presented with a rose and the lovely young man ground the beans for me as part of the process.
Meeting up with Sheila was interesting- I said I would meet her at the bus stop by the fire station near Sule Pagoda. No problem you would think - sadly when I went to look for the bus stop, it had gone. The bus I had come in on from the airport, had stopped where there was no bus stop. I walked up the road to an official bus stop, luckily she was paying attention and saw me.

Nancy You seem to be losing a lot! Train stations in KL and bus stops in Yangon. It is very careless, and reminds me of the disappearing Metro station in Paris. a theme seems to be emerging!
