We were on the road this morning before 5.15am because we weren't sure how heavy the traffic would be. The drive to the car rental return at LAX should have been 34mins according to the GPS but it took us an hour. We got the shuttle to the airport and went to the online check in but it was unable to check us in. We then had to wait in the slowest queue ever to be checked in. Apparently they needed to confirm date of births. The line for security was long and by the time we got through, we only had 25mins before boarding. So rather than the leisurely breakfast we had planned, we got muffins & sat at the gate.
The flight to New York was scheduled to take 5.5hrs, but the pilot got us there in 4.5hrs. With the time zone change, it was just after 4.30pm when we landed. The cab ride into midtown was 1.5hrs.
We checked in to the hotel & found we had 'breakfast to go' and 'wine hour' every day. The room was full of feathers so someone from housekeeping had to come & swap it all over even though Jane tells them to ensure are no feathers when she books. But, the staff have all been very friendly & nothing seems to be a problem.
We met Caroline, Robyn's friend from the UK, for dinner. She has been here for 3 days & has another 3 days with us. We found an Irish pub for dinner, a wine & a good catch up.
Today is the coldest day since February & tomorrow is forecast to be the same - a top of -6 degrees. It certainly is a lot colder than LA. My gorgeous fur hat might not be warm enough but I"ll try it again tomorrow with my hair down.
We saw lots of Christmas trees in building foyers & trees along the streets are covered in lights so the town looks very festive. Caroline has avoided the Rockefeller Christmas tree at night so far but we might go there tomorrow.
Snow is for forecast for Saturday!!! Tomorrow we plan to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. We then have a holiday lights tour in the evening.
