Hey all! Another update for you on our travels!
We are getting ready to leave San Francisco tomorrow, after a week of fun fun fun!!
We arrived in SF a week ago on Sat 23rd by train and bus from Santa Barbara and the journey took 8 hours but we didn't really mind it at all as it was great just looking out the window, taking the scenery all in!! We arrived in the city just in time to witness the SF Giants make it into the World Series (City's Baseball team)! The city was going mad, everyone was happy and whoop-whooping!! 'Go Giants!!'
We were staying Downtown in SF and the location was fab!! Stepped outside the door and we were in the thick of things, two mins walk from the shops, bars and restaurants! Happy days! We arrived late so we settled into our room and fell straight into bed!
The weather on the sunday was pretty bleak (think Britain! ha!) so we got our bearings and stocked up on food and drink from the grocers! The walk to the grocery was hard as SF is all hills! We had to get a cable car back after shopping and we were knackered but we also wanted to ride in the famous SF Cable cars! They are so shaky, my bottom was vibrating all the way home and very noisy; wouldnt fancy working on them all day! But an enjoyable experience!!
Stocked up on yummy Californian wine that only cost 2bucks a bottle so we were very happy chappies!!
On monday, we visited Alcatraz, which we were very much looking forward to, esp after seeing it in the movies! We got the ferry from pier 33 and set sail for the 'Island of Pelicans'. The ride only took 10mins and was great as the sun had come out and it was a gorgeous morning! We docked on the Island and met our guide..who was a character himself, he has us all cracked up and told us some amazing stories about attemped escapes from the 'Inescapable Island'. Then we made our way up the Hill, another very steep hill, to the Cell house to get our personal audio headsets. We both really loved the tour as it was narated by former guards and inmates who told their own personal stories of their time on 'The Rock'. We wandered around the different cells, saw how the inmates lived and took pics. Adam really enjoyed having his pic taken in a cell- he didn't get locked up tho!
The rest of the week, the weather was glorious; so perfect for seeing the sights. We visited Chinatown, Russian Hill and Nob Hill. Some really nice apartments there and more HILLS!
We shopped til we dropped around Union Sq and Market street (i enjoyed this more than Adam did! lol) I bought some nice clothes, other bits and visited the Uggs Store-HEAVEN! Treated myself to a nice new pair of Uggs too!! :@)
Mid-week we got the Golden Gate bus to Sausalito, seaside village across the Golden gate Bridge from San Fran. It was a lovley drive as we got to actually ride across the bridge and take photos! The village of Sausalito is so cute and quaint! Very cute seaside town and very upmarket-gorgeous houses built into the surrounding hills of the village..Adam's new favourite place 'to move to'! We munched on Homemade burgers and Crinkle chips (haven't had those since i was a kid!?) and it was yum!
We got the Street car to Pier 39 with its cute little seaside shops and restaurants. Ate the BEST crabcakes i have ever tasted in my life!??! (I even had to go back today, our last day to have another!) and scoffed yummy Ben and Jerrys Ice cream-we are both addicted to the new Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Flavour!! We loved seeing the local residents; hundreds of Sea Lions, sunbathing on the docks :@) Adam bought me a lovely keepsake souvenier sweater from pier 39..
We met some really nice people aswel and our roomies were a lovely couple from Germany :@) Hope to stay in touch as they are visiting alot of the same places as us!
We loved San Francisco and would def recommend visiting it! We are supporting the Giants now on their World Series Conquest and will be rooting for them all the way!
We are VERY excited to be off to Las Vegas tomorrow afternoon for fun and frolics and will be staying at the Excalibur which should be ace and the temp should be in the 30s!! Until next time...
See ya!!!
Edel and Adam
