New York f**king City!
we stayed the week in a hostel on broadway (bunk up!) it was clean though and broadway is a good base for getting into the city centre.
After our 8 hour flight from Heathrow we arrived to beautiful sunshine, the following morning we set off for the musuem of natural history to see if we could learn few things.we did. I liked the dinosaurs, Edel liked the volcano stuff or something.we then got ourselves a footlong subway and went to central park. we did feel a bit guilty stuffing our faces whilst literally hundreds of people were cycling, running, skating around us. We took some nice photos and enjoyed the peace and quiet, walking approx 100 miles. That evening we got back to get ready to go out, however a power nap turned into 13 hours of blissful sleep.
Feeling refreshed we thought we would tackle the underground system. First we got our metro card (mine didnt work of course) jumped on a train and laughed as we saw our stop whizzing past our eyes. Once we got off and got on the right train we were in Times square, as soon as you step out of the subway you feel like your in a movie with the neon lights at every turn. We visited the Empire state building (or the ESB as us locals call it! It's big) took some good photos of the view with the taxi's looking like toy cars below.
Next we walked to the grand central terminal. Outside it is chaos but as soon as you walk through the door its like a Cathedral, such a nice building and although it is full of busy people being busy, they are quiet.Highly recommend!
Hungry......we got pizza slices the size of my head.Tasty! On the way back we stumbled across the chrysler building (also big).Another 100 miles covered easy.
On Wednesday, we were up and out early to the Staten island ferry to have a look at a big lady Edel had been going on about (statue of liberty) , we got the ferry across, travelling on the 'hurricane deck' . Edel took some good photos but i couldnt zoom in so sat there like a lemon. From there we walked up to Wall street, i wanted to take a picture of the famous bronze bull but the Chinese people wouldnt leave it alone(see photo). Nearby was the site of the Twin towers, where they are now building one big tower.Did feel abit sad there. Another hundred miles walked we headed back and got domino's pizza.
The next day was my worst and i'm sure Edel's best. We shopped from morning to night, Rockefella centre, 5th avenue, Macy's, if it had shops we were there. We even had to actually queue to get in Abercrombie and fitch (the worst shopping experience of my life) then got our mum's gifts in Tiffany's.
After, we went to Times square again and filled up on burgers and cocktails/beers, Edel choosing the reasonably priced $15 drink while i supped a bud. They must make a fortune in tips.
The following couple of days we took it pretty easy, visiting Magnolias cupcakes (they do make a tasty cake) and chilling around the hostel, watching a few hours of Law & order (wacky i know). Our stay in NYC ended with an ungodly shuttle bus pick up of 5.40am. We loved NYC and would like to go again around Christmas time for sure!!
