Quick note to say Im in Arequipa. Im off early tomorrow to Chivay and stay overnight then stop at Cruz del Condor and a few small towns if I get time. I will update this ASAP. To get down here I decided to take the bus so it would help aclimatise. I thought 15 hr on the bus better than 1 hr on a plane. That was a mistake cos the first 13 hr was along the coast then the last hour was climbing the hills. I did use the best bus company in Peru. Cruz del sur have the best busses, and charge for them. All new almost like a plane, the seats recline back, similar overhead controls and a hostess. They stuffed up my ticket and had me leaving from the wrong terminal at the wrong time. They had to get a taxi for me and 3 other blokes to get to the correct terminal. I was the only white boy on the bus. Just after they took off we were served a meal, chicken and rice, that was OK. After dinner they played bingo, in spanish. I had no chance. Then we watched a movie, american movie dubed into spanish with english sub titles til about 10 min from the end when we went to spanish subtitles....terrific. As I said the drive was along the coast so looking out my window was straight down to water and straight up the other side. When there wern´t cliffs the landscape was your typical ¨lunar landscape¨.The whole coast is desert with not even a blade of grass. The only vegetation was in the river valleys where they farm crops. In the morning they played rubbish spanish cartoons on the TV even though there were no kids on board. Then served breakfast; lousy ham and cheese roll and coffee with no milk or sugar. The only up side to the trip was I met a hot Colombian lady who speaks little english and I speak almost no spanish but we still managed to go out for dinner tonight. At the bus station there were lots of booths for booking hotels and tours etc so I tried one while I was waiting for my luggage. The bloke knew where I wanted to stay and showed me on a map where it is. He then showed me one closer to the square at the same price and with a free ride so I grabbed it. The hotel is very nice and I have cable TV. If only I knew how to work it. I took a walk aroung town to find an adaptor for the camera charger, which I eventually found, and saw a street stall selling civeche (si ve cha)which is raw fish ¨cooked¨in lemon juice. It was lunch time so I tried some. It was a little spicy for my taste but Conchita threw in a drink with it. Only cost me 3 1/2 soles what a deal. Tonight I had Lomo Saltada so that is almost all of the typical Peru food I have to try with only 2 left cuy and Lama steak. This afternoon I went on a city tour. It was pretty boreing and I think might have put me off city tours for good. It was quite warm today, t shirt weather, but this afternoon it got very overcast and sooo cold I couldn´t wait to get back to put something warm on
