Osh is the 2nd biggest city in Kyrgystan. It is one of the oldest cities in the world. They celebrated their 3000th birthday in 2000. The bazaar claims to be older than Rome. Depending who you believe it was founded by King Soloman or Alexander the Great or any number of people of that era. WHAT A DISAPOINTMENT. The bazaar is nearly 1/3 of the town but just a collection of tin boxes. Made out of corregated iron about 3mtr square and all selling the usual mass produced tourist junk. there is nothing very exciting to see in the city. ALL the buildings look like they were built between 20 and 80 years ago. There is nothing new or old, just rubbish. The Osh Guesthouse is the worst place I have stayed. The three guys who appear to be running the place are as dodgy as. The price kept going up. It is in a dodgy neighbourhood, down a back lane (at night you gotta dodge the hookers hanging around the lane) My bed was a couch and the one bathroom for everybody stunk. I was gonna stay 2 days but this place is so bad Im getting out ASAP. Tha taxi drivers are sharks. I showed one in my book where I wanted to go and we agreed on a price. He took me somewhere else and then still wanted his money. That got very ugly very quick. I had to pay another cab twice as much to go back to the 'guesthouse'. None of the cabs know where the place is and they cant follow the map in Lonely Planet. Tomorrow morning Im on the bus to Jalala bad, then bus to Bazaar Korgon, then taxi to Arslanbob.
