dzasta travels
Im back in Nairobery and the tour has finished. I was going to write a huge post about how **** it was and send it to Intrepid but I cant be bothered now. Lets just say it was not my cup of tea and I will NEVER be doing that again. It is the most expensive mistake I have made for a while.
Africa was not what I expected. For a start it is sooooo cold. I cant believe Tarzan ran around here for so long in a lap lap? It has been freezing cold. There was only 2 days when I didn't need my jacket and a few days where I wore it all day.
The campsites they use are all miles for anywhere so when you get there you are a captive. There is little chance to interact with the locals and meet people. Some of the campsites were exceptionally good and some were filthy holes. Overall they were OK.
I expected to have to put up a tent everyday but I did not expect 2hr of chores EVERY day. I had some one in my tent for both tours who snored. That made the last week very expensive cos I had to upgrade to get some sleep. People who snore should have some consideration and pay the single supplement.
Africa, to me, is all about animals and people. We didn't get enough animals and there was no interaction with the locals.
The animals are all pretty much habituated. I got within 3mtr of a Rhino, touched a mountain gorilla, watched lions stalk prey within 30mr and saw a leopard about 5mtr away. I suspect it is money that drives this. We pay $20 to see animals in binoculars and $200 to get closer or $850 in t5he case of gorillas. Im not sure how I feel about this. Is it good for the animals or are we making some ones wallet fatter ?
I am flying on Air Rwanda tomorrow via Kigali to Dubai and will be there for 4 days then home.
