dzasta travels
I know what you are thinking. This is a 5 day trip how can there be a day 6?
I lost my passport????? I had it Saturday morning and didnt have it on Sunday morning. I went to the tourist poice and they couldnt help so had to go to the Kuta police in Tuban. They did a report and charged me 100,000 for it. I then went to the airport to try to see if I could fly useing the scanned copy on my USB. Had hastles getting into airport but eventually found a ladt nanmed Sarah from Australian imigration. She was real helpful but could not get the Indonesion imigration to let me fly. I will have to go to the embasy in Denpasar on Monday when they open and see what they can do. looks like I will have to get new passport and prolly take a few days.
I dont know if my passport was lost or stolen....
Last night I was trying to get home anyway I could. I reported to the tourist police. They couldnt help so I had to get a taxi to Tuban to the kuta police station. I reported my passport missing and they did a report and charged me 100,000 for "administration". He said to go to Imigration and see if they will let me fly. I got a taxi to the airport and got in without a passport, thats how slack they are. While I was at the Air Asia counter putting my case a lady walked past and he called her over. It turns out she is from Australian imigration and was airline liason officer. Sarah was her name and she was a great help. She tried to sort it out for me and even went to imigration for me but they said I could net leave. She said the Aust Gavt had no problem with me flying but Indo Imigration would not let me leave without passport.I got a taxi back to Kuta to get Owen then taxi back to airport to put him on the plane. Then taxi back to Kuta to find somewhere to stay. I dont knoe the name of the place but it was about 11 and the price was right so I stayed. It was next to Sendok cafe so I knew the area and I already had the code for free WiFi at Sendok.
Monday morning I was up at 4am, I couldnt sleep, so I went next door to use the free WiFi to notify a few people I was still here and I had to track down the Aust Consulate and Indonesian Imigration. I hit the road early and arrive at the Consulate just after 8 and it was just opening. I stepped up to the window and said "I have lost my passport" they said "can I see ID?" I said "I dont have any" they said "Passport, drivers license?" Derrrr I thought I just said I lost it. Eventually they let me in when I gave them my passport number and they bought it up on th screen. Getting in is harder than airport security. They ion test me and my bags for drugd and explosives. I cant take in any electrical like laptop and camera, also have to leave all the cables and even the USB. I also cant just leave my bags there and get them on the way out so you gotta do it all. Finally I get to the ofice and explain I have lost my passport. I have to fill out a couple of forms and he said it would take a couple of days. I have to get some passport photos so he gave me a map and called a cab for me to get there. I also had to go to the bank and get cash to pay for the Emergency Passport and the fine. The taxi waited for me and getting in this time was easire but I still had to go through all the formalities. I paid the fines.. all 1.8 mil and handed over the photos. he suggested I could get express service and it is amazing what 2mil ruppiah will get these days. I had my Emergency passport in !hr. While I was there 7 people came to apply for emergency pasports. If you think Im done think again. In my passport was my vias so I have to track down Indonesian Imigration to get an Exit permit. Taxi to Indo imigration was the easy part. Finding the place upstairs was a mission but I just kept asking and eventually got there. The guy took all my paperwork and checked it over then sent me next door to get them all photocopied, at a price, and to the others side to buy a Red folder to put them all in. Back upstais he did the paper work and stamped my passport so NOW I can leave. Taxi to the airport to get a ticket on the next flight out of here. After getting the run around from a couple of copsI found the Air Asia office and asked for a ticket. They wanted $424 for a one way flight back to Perth. She said "late notice always more expensive" I told her to shove it. Next door was a Malaysian office so I asked them. They had a flight leaving at 5pm via KL and arriving in Perth at 3pm TOMORROW and they want $503. hahaha Singapore was even worse so I had to go back to Air Asia and book the ticket. Everyone checking in took about 5 min or less, it took me 45 min cos I have dodgy passport and they are tellike me the plane is full. Eventually a supervisor came down and they found another seat and I got a boarding pass. At Imigration I was directed into an office and fill out another form cos I have exit permit. It took nearly 3 hours to get through all the various points of the airport and I only just made the plane. Back in Perth Imigration pulled me aside co the bar codes were not working on the Emergency passport but they did it manually and soon got it sorted.
Its been a saga that I dont want to repeat and an expensive lesson in stupidity.
