dzasta travels
Well we arrived here safe and sound. The flight up here was about half empty so we were able to spread out abd get some sleep. The three seats in front of us were empty so I jumped in there and stretched out abd Owen did the same on our seats. When we arrived we flew through the airport. we were not trying to be fast it just happened. We had no check luggage so we were first at most of the windows and we were not held up at all. The taxi drivers were the usuall *******. They started at 250,000 then dropped to 150,000 we ended up paying 50,000.
The hotel is just OK. It is not worth $35 that we are paying but it will have to do. I have stayed in better for $10 and if we had not booked over the net I think I could have got it much cheaper. Breaky is not a smorgasbord but you order from the menu. i had omlet, toast and fruit. Owen didnt like the fruit or his egg.
After breakfast we walked to Poppies to get the lay of the land and I was trying to spin Owen out with the culture shock. He coped really well and his coment was "interesting" Owen now has aplan to live on mars bars and M&Ms. I will try to change that in the few days we are here.
We did some shopping in both the Poppies and a cou;ple of other markets. I got a hat for 10,000 and 2 pair of cargos for 130,000. We changed money this morning for 9495/dollar. Owen bought 2 singlets for 50,000 a hat for 45,000 and sunnies for 25,000.
We have been checking out tours around the island and so far they are all expensive so it looks like we might hire a taxi tomorrow.
we hired a taxi for the arvo and went to Uluwatu and Jimbaran. The traffic was hell and it took ages. I wanted to hire bikes but Owen wouldnt. He wouldnt even go on the back of one. In the end it was prolly lucky we didnt cos we would have got lost. The taxi only cost 200,000 and we have hired him for the whole day tomorrow. The traffic is spinning Owen out more than anything else. Like all asians they treat the road rules as a suggestion and Owen cant get used to their way of doing things.
We found a Macca's near Matahari square so Owen was in heaven. He hadnt eaten all day so he just about inhaled a cheese burger. After maccas we walked a little further up the street and ended up near Waterbom park and there is a Burger King there so he is heading there tomorrow. After moping around all day Owen was finally happy and from absolutely hating the place, and wanting to get the next plane out of here, to love the place and talking about his next trip here. Next trip will be for only 2 days.
