dzasta travels
Officially Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, but everyone just calls it Puerto Viejo. It was only 1/2hr on the bus to get down here this morning so I have been here for 5hr now. That means I have found a hotel and walked EVERY street in town and a couple out of town. It is another small town with no apparent reason for being here. It was a surf town but now it is more of a party town. Today has been overcast all day and the weather is not great but no one is in the water. I have only seen a couple of board rental places and only 1 repair shop. The surf towns on the Pacific coast are way more about surf than here.
The hotel I am in is really nice. It is a yoga retreat. Before you ask NO I am not doing yoga. I had my fill of yoga in 1982 so I don't need it anymore. I think I might be the only person here? I'm here for a couple of days then cross the border to Panama.
They don't seem to be very religious down here. The churches are all small and they are all locked up. It was the same in Cahuita.
After the overcast day yesterday, today couldn't have bee any more different. This morning there wasn't a cloud in the sky so I decided to head for the beach. I walked south heading for Playa Chiquita. I went along the beach path til I got to an actual beach then I walked on the beach. I was a great walk, when I got hot I just had a swim. I know I got past Playa Chiquita but I don't know how far past and I don't know how far I walked. Chiquita is 5km south of here by road so I did more than 10km and I am feeling it now. On one of my swims I got stung by something? I don't know what it was, I didn't see anything, but it feels like a stinger and it is hurting like hell now.
Well, what a change in the weather. About 4 this arvo a huge storm rolled in. It ****** down for a couple of hours. The whole town lost power. That is really boring! Sitting in a dark hotel room with no power. I went out to get some food. The only place I could find open was the supermarket, so I got some biscuits and dip. Power came back about 7.
