We came, we saw, we stayed and Leah got mugged (by a monkey)
Ubud - the quintisential chill-out town in Bali. We were advised by the guidebook that we'd stay longer than planned, and that we did - with only minor casualties.
I got my first manicure, LZ made a Spanish friend, we sampled the local restaurants and then it all went downhill.
The main attraction of Ubud is the Monkey Forest and it all started so well. LZ was up nice and early to wander around monkey spotting before the hordes of tourists (we don't think of ourselves as this) descended from their tour buses. The weather was not baking this early, and so we began.
And true to the titular nature of the forest there were monkeys galore. All inquisitive and errrr... monkey-like!
After walking around the temples for about an hour and snapping away as one does, that is when it happened. Almost like in slow motion.
Leah stopped to take the water out the bag for a drink....
She didn't see the monkey behind her, she didn't see him approach until it was too late, but the monkey saw the water and it was determined. It wasn't much of a Mexican stand-off, Leah just kinda handed the monkey the bottle and stood there looking a bit thirsty. The monkey emptied the water on the floor, dropped the bottle and ran off.
All a bit suspicious if you ask me, I think it was all a big con and the water sellers and the monkeys were in it together!!!!
