I thought I was doing pretty well at being a chilled traveller, arriving in Mumbai airport, finding a trolley and waiting ages for my bag… (no longer off first with a business class flight!) but I quickly became rattled and worried about making my connecting flight. No seemed able to direct me to departures, or specifically to domestic terminal departures and then when I had been up and down the small lift a few times with many people in all directions, it looked like it would take ages to get the bus there and what felt like a long gap between flights felt tight.
I shouldn't have worried, made it to the terminal, checked in, through security with plenty (too much) time for the flight. An interesting choice of lunch options and no wifi as I didn't have an Indian number to text with, so I plonked myself down in front of the gate, around an hour early, to wait. As the flight departure time came ever closer, it was strange how there were so few people near the gate, no call for the flight, no air steward at the gate even; yet no mention of a delay on the board. I walked about a bit to check the board a few more times and try and find someone to ask. No one was to be found.
Next thing I know, the board has magically changed from wait to be called to flight departed!! Again impossible to find anyone to talk so I was ushered back through security, the wrong way to the check-in, panicking that I have managed to miss the flight when I started so early, where it turned out my flight had been cancelled and I had been rebooked on a different (low-cost) airline. It was a real pain to wait another three hours but everyone was very nice about it and I was so relieved not to have missed it, I was ok.
