The Castaways
Vang Vieng was like a little Britain. It was so Westernised but great! We literally spend 3 days watching Friends in a restuarant that has little raised sofa type table and chairs. It was nice to watch loads of Friends and to chill out. When we were dropped off at the bus station we didn't think that it would be like that as it looked like the middle of nowhere, but we soon found our way and a nice guesthouse where we had amazing views. Vang Vieng is so pretty! The mountains and caves surround the whole place and it's unreal just watching it all!!! We managed to leave Friends behind for one day and went on a day tour which included kayaking along the river, exploring some caves with buddhas in them and tubing in the caves. The kayaking was sooo hard and me and Matthew had to be separated because we were so bad and kept getting wedged against rocks so we had to change and pair up with the instructors. Funny!! But the caves were good - it was an elephant cave where an elephant has naturally formed out of the rocks which was cool! The tubing was great - it was in the caves and we had to follow a piece of string at first but most of us where wearing head torches (apart from Dulcie) attached to car batteries around our necks so there was light but it was still a bit scary! Very tiring all the kayaking but it was funny and practically all the people on the tour were English anyway. Sad to leave Vang Vieng as it's so chilled but we are heading to the capital, Vientaine, and then back into Thailand as we only have a 15 day visa anyway.
