Well well well... Seven days of rain in Queenstown and a cold left me doing pretty much nothing except sleeping. And playing a round of mini golf. And I'm no mini Tiger Woods, so it was a bit rubbish. If only I had the urge to do a bungy eh?....
Next trip, the bottom bus. Lots of animals promised...
Left Queenstown and headed to Dunedin. Driver not too happy as All Blacks had just lost to France... Speights Brewery and Cadbury were both shut, what with it being a Sunday and all, so not much to do apart from wander down Baldwin Street, steepest in the world according to the Guinness book of records, and look at the old train station. Smashing. Turns out its a student town, but with Uni being closed for the summer, it was pretty dead. So early to bed.. again...
Second leg, Dunedin to Invercargill via the Catlins. All very pretty. Did a couple of walks around the beach, and got to within fighting ditance of a couple of seals. They growled, I ran away. It was also probably the most southery I'll ever be, unless I make it to Antarctica... At Curio bay we had a wander around a petrified forest and got to see some Yellow Eyed Penguins, all good stuff. On to Invercargill and again, nothing to do after dinner except watch telly... Dull..
Next day, Invercargill to Te Anau. First stop, a little Jewellery makers in Riverton, to craft a necklace from Paua Shell. Its safe to say I wont be working in Elizabeth Duke any time soon... Then onto a sheep farm! Fed a lamb, then sheared a sheep. Another career I won't be following on my return to Blighty... Into Te Anau, another sleepy town (this bus is taking the mic now!), for another round of mini golf. Trust me, nowt else to do. I hadn't improved.
Last leg of the bottom bus, Te Anau to Milford Sound then back to Queenstown. The drive to Milford Sound was stunning, passing through mountains and avalanches etc. Milford Sound was rather more dissapointing. Although we did see a few Fjordland Penguins. The back to good old Queenstown for a couple of beers. Amazingly it had stopped raining. Sweet. Time to was some socks...
