USA Travels
After two busy days travelling we have arrived at our destination for the next twelve nights. We have taken great pleasure in unpacking having lived out of our rucksacks for the last 30 days. We have seen some marvellous sights and had great experiences and now just want to veg out. Our last meal with the group two nights ago was quite moving, especially saying goodbye to Nuddy our guide for the past month. She has worked so hard to get us all from a to b, through four border crossings, onto a variety of boats, effortless through two airports and onto two overnight trains. Only three of use made it all the way round and we would not have missed a minute of it. Well, maybe the road to Siem Reap. I'LL SECOND THAT We had time yesterday morning to have breakfast and visit the Chinese Market, I TRIED TO BUY MORE SHOES BUT IT WAS THEN THAT WE FOUND WE WERE IN THE CASH AND CARRY BIT FOR THE ALL NIGHT MARKETS. Our taxi collected us and took US right by the protesters camp that we had done our best to avoid while in Bangkok. Don Mueng Airport was quite quiet and not the usual rip off most airports seem to have become. ALTHOUGH THE ASIAN ONES WEVE BEEN TO ON THIS TRIP ALL SEEM TO HAVE BEEN WELL PRICED. The transfer to Ao Nang was seamless, and we were soon exploring the local sites amongst the huge limestone karsts surrounding us. Following breakfast this morning we waded out to our long tail ferry boat to get around the peninsula to Railay Beach. I wish I had had the camera handy as the views were fabulous but managing the bags and a damp crutch proved a challenge. Hopping ashore we walked to a bar SO THAT DAVID COULD HAVE A BEER, WELL IT WAS 10:30, I HAD A FRUIT SHAKE AND to clean our feet and reshoe before finding the Hotel. Our room is great with all we will need. Our reception was welcoming and we were given our room early without a wait. It has been great to hear from you all and we are glad you found the blog interesting. Looking forward to seeing you all in a couple weeks. WE MAY TAKE THE ODD BOAT TRIP AND EVEN GO TO WATCH SOME THAI BOXING ALTHOUGH I WILL BE PEOPLE WATCHING INSTEAD SO IF WE DO ANYTHING INTERESTING WE'LL SEND AN ADDENDUM AND PHOTOS OF COURSE. THE 3 HIGHLIGHTS FOR ME WERE, HALONG BAY, SAILING DOWN THE MEKONG AND THE OVERNIGHT TRAINS ALTHOUGH LAOS WAS SO BEAUTIFUL SO ON REFECTION I THINK THAT'S 3RD. :-) especially Luang Probang.
