For special occations, a meal will be made in a lovo - earth oven. It takes a while to prepare and to cook the food, and Sala says it is like the BBQ because it is the men that do all the cooking. The luvu is outside, and different leaves are used to wrap the food and cover the oven.
The men went out to the reef to fish, and they caught a tuna and a turtle. The turtle was first supposed to be Friday's supper, but then they decided that it would be a nice pet. The tuna went in the luvu.
Fijians traditionally eat with their hands, and for the lovo, so does everyone else. We had a lovo because it was my last day, and Sala said a beautiful prayer before the meal.
Just like on my first day, I had a look at the ocean from the beach. When I first saw it, I was laughing with disbelief. I hope some of the pictures does it justice.
I am very greatful for this lovely family and they share their warmth and humour with everyone they meet.
