(20 October)
On the bus to the hotel we got a talk from Bom about how this one might not be very nice so we were prepared for the worst, then arrived at one of the nicest hotels so far! Hoi An is really pretty, the town centre is a unesco site i think. it's also the place to get tailored clothes! There's over 400 tailors in a tiny wee town, it was actually crazy. I hadn't particularly thought of anything I wanted made, but a few of the girls had photos of dresses etc.
We checked into the hotel and then Bom took us on an orientation walk, then we went in search of lunch. I was having a pretty miserable time with my crazy bites in the heat, so couldn't wait to just sit down and eat something! We ended up going somewhere that had been recommended as really cheap called Ms Ly or something... It wasn't very cheap but the food was gorgeous! Laura and I went for the tasting menu and got a wee bit of 4 local foods, it really was yummy! They also gave me a big bag of ice to hold on my bites which was an actual life saver!
I felt much better after lunch and trooped round the tailor shops, but nothing really took my fancy until everyone else had nearly finished and I saw a dress hanging in a shop that fit me almost perfectly except for the length. I wasn't sure about it, but ended up going back that evening and getting measured for them to make the dress in my size, and to the length I wanted, for £20! Pretty awesome like. Would be cool to come to Vietnam on a short holiday with an empty suitcase and just get anything you wanted made! Laura even got clothes made for her monkey teddy haha!
After the shops we walked along the river front and stopped for drinks in a restaurant which was nice (more ice for my feet! I was properly dying from those bites lol). Then we headed back to get showered etc before dinner!
We went for the group dinner which was a little disappointing... I thought the food was a bit bland. Afterwards we stopped in a bar on the way home and had a few drinks which was really nice. I had a few issues with figuring out what to order because there was no other vodka drinkers for the buy 1 get 1 free offer haha. I saw Sarah from my China tour in there too which was nice so chatted to her for a bit and was talking to 2 Australians on her tour about what to do in Australia which was cool! The music in that bar was awesome as well! Kinda like an indie bar I think. Made me realise a whole bunch of bands I forgot to put on my iPod...fail!
That wasn't a late night but it was nice to chill out and chat for a bit instead of just going to bed after dinner!
