Day 28. We are driving up through the Francois Peron National Park today for a day’s sightseeing and fishing. Day 27. After breakfast we drive around Carnarvon town centre and walk on the palm lined esplanade and old rail jetty to say our farewells. We have really enjoyed our few days here but now we must head further south on the North West Coastal Highway towards Denham. Down the highway we detour to Gladstone scenic lookout to view the blue sandy Shark Bay in the distance. Day 26. Breakfast at our cabin and then down to Carnarvon town beach for some fishing. No luck here so then onto the sandy mouth of the mighty Gascoyne River and the old timber structures but still no luck. Wind picking up again. Day 25. We leave Quobba Station this morning with mixed feelings. We have enjoyed the rustic cottage and wild remote location but the wind and huge seas have not been favourable to fishing. Days 23, 24. Quobba Station for a few nights. An operating sheep station with 10,000 damaru sheep, a South African breed mainly for meat, right on the wild Quobba coast. Massive waves at the Quobba Blowholes spouting forth high into the air. We are warned to watch out for king waves which have killed some 63 people here over the years, mainly rock fishermen.
