Donna & Neils Travels
Wow! what can we say - Colonia is a beautiful, charming colonial town by the coast. We are having a wonderful time exploring the old town, sitting by the sea and feeling very relaxed. Its a pretty small town and there are not many sights ie buildings, museums etc (though the ones they do have are beautiful) so that was all done in a day but there is just a really nice feeling here that makes us want to stay a while.
The weather again has been a scorcher untill a horrendous storm decided to visit us last night with thunder like we've never heard before - we were sure the hotel windows were going to break.
Another reason for staying is there are some nice beaches (not beautiful but quiet) and we've decided to try and get rid of our pastey skins to attempt to blend in with the locals as we stick out like sore thumbs at the moment.
Again we are sampling the local cuisine and wine, though they eat extremely late here which we are finding difficult as we are usually starving by 9 o'clock and have to wait so we are not the only ones sitting in the resturants looking like sad gringos.
We are due to leave on Wednesday for a two hour bus ride to Montevideo, Uruguays capital city. Though we have to say Colonia has definately made a lasting impression on us.
P.s The photo is not of Colonia as the site did not have any but its as near as we could get.
