We wolfed down our delayed breakfast & caught our 6 hour minibus/shuttle bus down to San Pedro La Laguna, one of the villages on the shores of Lake Atitlan. Supposedly the chicken buses aren't safe & take forever, so these shuttles are the best way to travel & all the travellers seem to use them. Unfortunately they're distinctly lacking in leg room & comfort. That coupled with no headrests & Guatemala's roads being some of the worst & bumpiest that I've come across, means sleeping on them is nigh on impossible. So instead we all chatted which made the time pass so much quicker. I checked out the hostels when we arrived, leaving Rach to have a coffee. In the end though, after about 40mins of looking, the best place was Mansion Del Lago, right next door to the cafe where Rach was! We checked in & went for some lunch perched over the lake, looking out at the surrounding mountains & volcanos (none of which we had any intentions of climbing!). The rest of the afternoon was spent having a few cuppas for me to finish my reading & for Rach to do some studying, before taking a stroll around the streets & discussing our route through Guatemala. We headed down to D'Noz for dinner, where they were showing the film 'Rio' & remained there until they pretty much kicked us out & we headed back. (This place contains a drawing of an Indian's head laying down, which is the name and shape of the mountain behind it (see photo)).
