I had to get up early - 9am for my first adventure - Coffee farm and Materuni Waterfall. Preferred to hike most of the way to practice for Kili and get some exercise! Had some wine (go figure!) and dancing at little bar across the street the night before cause that's when I'm awake so it was extremely hard to get up, never mind the effects of the wine - oh well!
My guide and I started the walk along a dirt road and the hills did not stop. Went through several villages, they all are advertising either Airtel or Coke. There were so many children, women walking somewhere and men standing around. Most people are farmers and there is an abundance of food - just not a lot of education.
After 2 hours, we reached the Coffee farm in the hills. We picked some coffee beans, which are red, and then went through the whole process of cracking the shells and getting the beans out, roasting them and then crushing for coffee; which is like a drug it is so strong! Then off to the Waterfall on a clay dirt, very slippery kind of path. . Had lunch then in for a swim, OMG the waterfall water is very , very cold, like glacier waters. Hiking back was hard cause - I was tired. Went and bought a ham and pineapple pizza at the Union café in town via taxi, then bed.
