Today we head to Arusha National Park, home of Mount Meru and a walking Safari.
It's an hour drive and some of the way, the roads are pretty rough. Pretty much dirt and so many bumps and ruts - the locals call drving them an "African massage'. On the roads, pretty much anything goes. There are lots of cars as well as motorcycles with multiple passengers, walkers, carts and plenty of goats and donkey's on the edge. No stop lights, just wicked speed bumps in the villages.
This is the home of Maasi people, whose warriors where the red scarves and skirts. They carry a sword and as they are meat eaters, they tend to have animals rather than farms. They used to be very aggressive and went to war with other tribes to take over the animals. They don't like their picture taken so unless I can sneak one later, hard to imagine.
In the park we are accompanied by a Ranger who is armed with a loaded .306 rifle - to kill Water buffalos as they can charge. It's a walking Safari tour for a couple of hours. The wildlife is amazing and we saw Water Buffalo, Baboons, 2 other monkeys, Zebras, Gazelle, Wart Hogs w lot of babies(Pumba), all close but SO close to the Giraffes. Then off to a waterfall to get cooled off and back.
Next we went on a game drive to see more or the same animals and lots of cranes - thousands. It's the Canada Goose problem of Africa!
It was long day, nice to get back to shower but the short hair got me a sunburn on the back of my neck!
