Well another update to our adventure, we arrived in Williamsburg, VA on Tuesday, May 7. After a days rest after our long trip from the NC border (about 130 miles) we went to Jamestowne which as you know is the first landing spot for the first settlers from England in 1607. Its loacted right on the James River about 20 miles from Williamsburg. It has quite a history as the first settlement and capitol in what will become the colonies. I'm sure you remember Capt John Smith and the indian princess Pocahontas, well this is the place they their stories began.
There are two Jamestowne locations to see, one is the originial settlement itself where all the ruins are and the other is a recreation of the settlement, the boats (3) they came over in and an indian villege (the Powhatan's). It's pretty interesting with all the people working there wearing clothes fashioned for the period and deminstrating how things were done at the time in the blacksmiths shop, standing guard with a musket and the stores.
In the original location there are a group of archaeologists doing a dig (began in 1994) trying to discover the exact locations of all the buildings and anything else they can find. The archaeologists working at the site act as guides around Jamestowne and discuss how life was at the time an what they've uncovered (about 50,000 items so far).
If your interested in history, this is a place you have to visit at some point, had a great day, talk to you later.
