Our stay in Fayetteville is over, can't say that we are sorry to leave there. We stayed at an Army Recreation RV Park just outside of Ft Bragg. The park was on top of a hill close to Smith Lake, there were some really nice facilities at the lake (rec center, picnic area with a beach, docks and several water ski jumps) but it was all fenced off and you could not get near the lake. Most of the RV park was closed for renovations because evidently they poured the cement pads for the RVs on top of the sewer hook-ups and also on the wrong side of the electrical poles so they had to tear up the pads and re-pour them in the correct spots. (tax dollars at work) I am not saying this is an Army problem but all of the Air Force and Navy Rv parks that we have stayed at so far have been great!
I've posted a picture of the bath house which was interesting to say the least. It is suppose to be a green bathhouse according to the people in the office. When we first arrived it had been raining that day and the water tank on the side of the bathhouse was overflowing with water but after several days with no rain we discovered that the toilets would no longer flush and showers were not much more than a trickle, most of bathrooms did not have any toilet paper or paper towels, so we went to the office to report it. That is when they told us that if doesn't rain then there is no water! This turned out to be a completely false as after talking to a few other campers we found out there is a water hose that can be used to fill the water tank when it does not rain. The office also told us the bathrooms were serviced everyday. Don happened to be in the bathhouse during one of there so-called services, the guy takes the water hose from outside and just sprays down each of the bathrooms! I guess that is what they teach in the Army.
We enjoyed the miles of walking trails through the woods, we did not see any deer but there were a lot of tracks. Kirby has become a pretty good tracker and can pick up the deer trails almost every time.
The RV park seemed to be in the direct flight path of the Ft Bragg helicopters which started flying over about 8am and did not stop until midnight or so...averaging about 5-10 chopper fly-bys per hour. See pics. The coppers flew so low that our RV shook. God Bless America and the sound of freedom.
Ft Bragg is one of the largest military instillation a that we have visited. It went for miles and miles in every direction. It is home of the 82nd Airborne and Army Special forces. There are two airfields, one is Pope Army Airfield which used to be Pope Air Force base and the other is Simmons Army Airfield. We visited the JFK museum which was dedicated to the history of the Army's Special Operations from back in the US Calvary days all the way to current operations in Afghanistan. It was very interesting.
My favorite day during our stay in Fayetteville was the day that we drove to Durham and went to a Durham Bulls baseball game. The Bulls are a triple-A farm team for the Rays. The outdoor stadium is really nice and it was a day game and the weather was great. The Bulls played the Toledo Mud Hens which are the farm team for the Cleveland Indians. The Bulls won 9-4!
We are moving on to Williamsburg Va tomorrow!

Pam Sorry the RV area was so crappy but that's what they get for buying into all that "green nonsense". Can't wait to hear about your next adventure.
