Todays goal: Belize City - Antigua! Left Caye Caulker with Ben, a guy from New Zealand that I met on the diveboat. He was going to cross the Belizian border by himself and I joined him. We found the bus station and got on the chicken bus. It took around 3 hours cause the bus stopped every 5 minutes! We made it accross this expensive border (whole Belize was dead expensive!) and left behind 2 long hours of dirtroad in a "car"... When we arrived in Santa Elena I found out that I couldn't go to Coban that day so I decided to join Ben for Antigua. We found some food and went over to Flores. LP says that Flores is pretty much s*** but I thought it looked alright. Saw a thunderstorm up in the mountains which were amazing... Ofcourse I got el hombre mas gordo in the whole of the bus next to me and I kept elbowing him all night! He was practically sitting on top of me! Ben got a man sleeping on his lap so maybe I wasn't too bad off afterall...
At 6am I woke up and luckily the gordo man was gone but the bus was standing still! After a while I understood with my poor spanish that the bridge was broken i two pieces cause of the rain! We waited for a few hours not knowing what would happen and if we could get to Guatemala City...After a while the driver decided to take a detour. What he didn't say was that it took hours! The scenery of Guatemala is stunning though so I didn't mind the detour. Got to Guatemala City, and found yet another chickenbus to Antigua...they drove like formula 1 up the hills and according to Ben this wasn't even close to what he had seen before! Arrived safe and sound in Antigua and went to the Yellow House and Dan,a british guy tagged along. Went to see some football and then to eat some food! Dan was on holiday and they he went to the pub afterwards. I had to sort out my ticket with Air France and I ended up chatting to a dutch girl named Flor who also stayed in the dorm...
This morning I had a fantastic breakfast (pancakes) and we went to the pub to watch engl-trin/tob. Stolled the streets afterwards and I ran into a dutch girl that came to my birthdayparty in Corn Island! What a small world...
