Woke up to another windy morning in Chicago, picked up a cup of Intelligentsia coffee, two BECs, and hopped on I-55 south towards St Louis. A few miles into our drive we came across a wind farm owned by Iberdrola. We got off the interstate and drove up next to one of these power monsters, these things are huge. We didn't stop again until we reached the Gateway to the West! It is pretty impressive to drive over the MLKing Bridge and see a massive metal arch next to the Mississippi river. We found an Americas Best Inn (can't go wrong for $60 a night) and then had a photo session at the arch. We had dinner at some BBQ restaurant which was alright, the beer was definitely better than the food. In fact, after chatting with some locals we found out St Louis isn't really that famous for their BBQ, Toasted Raviolis is what they're famous for but at that point we couldn't eat anything else.
Next morning, we woke up early and spent almost 3 hours at City Museum - probably the most amazing and fun museum we've ever been to, ever. "Housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company, the museum is an eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects."
We looked like we were 10 again, throwing ourselves down the slides, climbing and crawling everywhere. This place will make you wish you were 10 so you can keep up without getting tired.
Small city, more than 2 nights and you'll be bored, but the City Museum alone is worth it!
