Well we finally made it to Edinburgh safe and sound despite it pissing down rain and fog - actually it was just like driving in toowoomba. The scenery between York and edinburgh was just stunning but I must admit some of the roads were slightly smaller than what I was comfortable with!!! We finally arrived at our abode for the next couple of days. Beautiful Georgian guesthouse with bone china to be used at breakfast time and stunning crystal - my mum would have been in her element!!
First stop was lunch!! So we went for a walk and about 15 mins down the road we came across a pub called the
. The staff were lovely and the menu was great - I had fajitas which were awesome and extremely well priced and Sean had a chicken curry and from all accounts - delicious!!! So after a pint or two it was time to catch the bus into town and see what Edinburgh had to offer.
I don't know whether it's because of all the starch in their diet or just the fact that it always rains or seems grey all the time, there wasn't too many happy bus drivers we encountered in
Scotland but that may be just a generalisation. We had a wander around and the set out on our search to find the whiskey bar - the albanach - that had been recommended to us by one of the staff at the .
After plodding through the rain and a couple of steep streets we found it!! We over 250 types of whiskey on their menu, it was quite impressive!!
We decided to stay and have dinner there, I only had soup as I was still full from lunch and sean tried haggis for the first time, which he likened to pie or sausage roll mince, I still won't try it though!!! Dinner and the whiskey was really good and a place that I would recommend to people to visit!! After dinner, we thought we might stroll around town for a bit longer but when we went to leave we discovered it was raining heavier than what it was before we went in - time to go home and get a good night sleep for the big day planned for tomorrow!!!
