Our second day we awoke to another day of clouds and of course rain so what to do - we decided to conquer first Holyroode Palace where the queen comes every year for a period during summer. We caught the bus into town and prepared ourselves for the 'royal mile' which is definitely the tourist strip. After making it to the palace we took the audio tour, it was our first taste of Scottish history and it was a brutal one!! It was quite bizarre to think not only where some of the most brutal takeovers of the throne occurred but also it is now the site where queenie sometimes meets the heads of state across the world. After if finishing the tour we made a quick stop to the gift shop to get my shot glass and a couple of things for the kids and then we continued our tour of Edinburgh. The same day there was a relay of life going on to raise money and awareness for breast cancer and it was awesome to see so many people of different ages and sex out in the rain and cold doing this!!
We wandered around the city centre for awhile not actually doing much just taking in the people and surroundings and then it was time for lunch.
We found a nice little restaurant called angels with bagpipes and they were doing 2 courses for £10 and the drinks weren't too bad. It was just a nice break from the pub food that we had been eating!!
After lunch we decided to do the whiskey experience tour which was located up near Edinburgh castle. The tour involved going on a little ride in a cask shaped ride which took you through the whole process of how whiskey is made. The tour took around 20 mins and after that was the tasting part of the tour - Sean went for a Islay whisky which is extremely smoky whereas I went for a highland one - which still had a bit of a kick. After that we were given a voucher where you could taste all 4 types of whiskey and the ladies had the option of having a whiskey made cocktail - which was my option and I was not disappointed!! We also got to see the largest collection of whiskey around 3000 bottles!!!
After the tour we wandered around for awhile and thought we would go to Edinburgh Castle - well the line to get tickets would have been approx 1 hr wait so we decided against it and the rain was starting to come down even heavier so we decided on having an early dinner and making our way back to the hotel to start preparing for tomorrow's journey.
We decided to go back to the albanach for dinner to have Sunday roast - once again we were not disappointed in the quantity - it could have fed Africa!!! Good but massive we then rolled ourselves to a cab and prepared to say goodnight to Edinburgh!!!
