Well we arrived in St Andrews and the weather was perfect but first stop was finding a place that could wash our clothes. We have found that the wash 'n'fold places are a godsend. For usually £5 we can usually get a massive bag of clothes, washed and folded for us the same day - saves us hanging out at laundromats trying to do it. The first place we tried does it but not shirts and trousers - go figure, so they pointed us in the direction of another place that was about a 10 minute walk from the city centre but first coffee!!! We have realized that you could make an absolute fortune if you set up a business that cooked fresh food and made decent coffee because the milk in our coffee had been boiled to the point of no return - it was horrible, Paris please do not disappoint us!! After having our coffee it was on to find the laundry - thank god for the iPad, it has been amazing for helping us find our way around. We eventually found the laundromat at around 11 - £5 and you can pick it up at 2 - brilliant!!
It was then off to find St Andrew's Old Course!! After a short drive through the city centre we found it - what a sight!!! Situated next to the beach where the beach run scene was filmed for Chariots of Fire, it was impressive. After finally convincing Sean he had nothing to lose by asking whether there was any chance of getting a game on the old course, we were on a mission!!
The first person we spoke to was the right person to speak to - Rod was the starter for the day!!! Sean had to go up to the clubhouse and get sorted out for clubs, shoes and balls and then it was a waiting game but Sean was going to get a round on the old course!!! So now what am I going to do??? Leaving the car at the club I ventured back into town and did a bit of sightseeing - St Andrews is a quaint little town but it was also bustling at the same time as it was graduation week for the St Andrews University (same uni as where William and Kate met) it was also father's day that week. After wandering around for awhile it was time for lunch so I found a little place called the grill house that did cheap but tasty Mexican food - so a fajita and 2 coronas later it was time to pick up the washing.
After struggling with the washing back to the car Sean was still sitting in the same spot - tee off wasnt going to be until 3:40 and it was a fairly busy course with large groups of loud, rude Americans but I digress!!!
So I made plans to stay at the hotel across the road and when I mentioned we were on our honeymoon - upgrade thank you very much - views of the 17th hole!!!
After Sean had finished (8:30pm and it was still light) it was time for dinner - exceptional food and exceptional vodka, lime and sodas!!! Only downside was having a huge group of Americans behind us who brought their own bookie as they betted on their golf game - figures of $10,000 were being thrown around and of course not using inside voices and a group of Canadians that were sitting at the table next to us were also shaking their head I disbelief. At 11pm we decided it was time for bed and the last group of players were coming off the course - what a big day!!!
