This week we have been busy in the garden clearing weeds and mowing. We have had lovely sunshine thankfully. Last weekend we visited one of the worlds longest castles (1000 metres) at Burghausen on the River Salzach. It looked very impressive in the evening all lit up along the skyline. As it was a church holiday here on Monday we set off for Passau a very pretty city where three rivers meet, the Ilz, Danube and the Inn. On the way we visited Scharding the site of a former castle destroyed many years ago in a big fire. The old castle ruins look down on the River Inn and there is a splendid view of the River from the top.
Tomorrow is our last day in Bavaria, on Friday we leave for Linz and travel back to Prague to take a coach to Wroclaw in Poland.
Our first impression of Germany has been a good one. Everything in the countryside is perfect - almost telly tubby land! Rolling hills, beautiful farm houses, logs neatly stacked and tractors rolling along the hills cutting grass. The only thing that is missing is the animals. Not a cow, sheep or pig in site. They are all in barns being fattened with grass cut for them from the meadow. Commercialism at its worst I fear, or are the animals just as happy inside, enjoying themselves eating all day.
