We are here in Chile - the longest day ever. We set off at 6.15 pm on the 9th and arrived at 2.30 pm on the 9th. So need to sleeeeep!
We're back in the land of the living having slept from the moment we booked in to our hostel until late this morning. The day dawned bright and sunny so we set off soon after breakfast to find a cashpoint that would give us some money as we had problems after we arrived with our card. This sometimes happens as not all cashpoints accept prepaid MasterCard. As it was Sunday yesterday we had to wait until today to find a bank open. Anyway the first bank we found worked fine so we were happy bunnies (it's Easter soon). Then we took the Metro into the city centre to see the Cathedral (beautiful) and took the funicular railway up to the Terraza Bellavista, a viewing point on the top of hilly parkland in the centre of the city. I have never seen such a view, the whole city sits across a flat plane surrounded by mountains, you can see for miles. There is also a cable car (which wasn't working) - we find in many countries that most museums and attractions close on Monday's. The City was extremely clean and tidy with parks running alongside the river. We had fun getting people to understand us, but they were so helpful. In the tube one man translated for us to the ticket seller, made sure we were on the right train then said goodbye and "welcome to Chile". It's surprising what you can achieve with a smile and a few hand gestures!
