After the calm and peace of Hoi An, we're now in Ho Chi Minh city - the exact opposite!! It's big, brash, loud and extremely fast moving - even trying to cross the street is a major adventure!! Once we arrived at our hotel it was off to a local restaurant for noodle soup - delicious! The chicken and stock is served in the bowl and then you are given plates of fresh herbs, lime, greens and noodles to add. Very tasty!! Well fed and watered we then started our afternoon adventure around the city - by cyclo. Think bicycle with a covered set on front and you'll get the idea...with our driver weaving their way round the thousands of scooters and cars we made our way to the War Remnants museum - a powerful reminder of what war can do to a country. Most disturbing were the photos of those affected by the dioxon sprays - body abnormalities, severe limb problems and paralysis. Worse still is the fact that these symptoms have somehow come down through generations - as we saw with a small girl later on.
After the shock of the musueum we continued through the city to Notre Dame cathedral and the the GPO - desgned by Monsieur Eifel himself!!
Dinner was at a local street cafe - again fab food and we ate while the heavens opened around us!
Today (Thursday) we had a day trip to the Mekong Delta - an amazing place ...more of that later as we're off to dinner now.
