Spent the day on the beach under a tree and occasionally in the water (there are horrid little stingger things in there, which obviously put me off) Although we left Neil aka Nemo in Penang i spotted him on a long boat yesterday just as he got to shore so he's staying at Monkeys with us again :)
Got up late again today, too late to organise anything as usual :os I wanted to go out on a day trip to see some of the surrounding islands but they all leave at 9.30am, considerng it was now 12.30pm it didnt look like we were going to be gettng very far :o( After asking at the tourist info shop they suggested that we might be able to hire a long boat for the day for 800B, tell them where we wanted to go and they would take us around for the afternoon, SCORE, sounds perfect :oD
After buying some munchies we left Nemo on the beach and found a fisherman but were told it would be 1200B, HA! no way dont think so, we stood our ground, GO US, and finally got the boat from 12.30pm untill 4pm (ish) for 800B 16quid :oD We hit Ko Hin Ngam first where coop n kat did some snorkelling it looked pretty wicked from where i was and i was great fun throwing crisps into the water around kats head and watching her panic as the fish attacked her, um i mean ate the crisps :0D Evil i know but it was funny all the same :oD
The long boat then took to the other side of the island where we were met by a beach covered in large pure black shiney pebbles. We got off the boat and had a look around, the pebbles were schorching hot! burning through our flip flops, we then built a stone tower ( to accompany the others that people had built around the site) just as kat n coop started collecting pebbles up to take with them i noticed a sign warning of the curse on Koh Hin Ngam, ooooo, anyone whos removes pebbles from this island etc etc Clever way of stopping tourists removing the pebbles personally but funny all the same :oD
Not 100% sure on the name of the second island but it was very plush with green forest right on the edge of the beach, ours were the first foot steps which made for a couple of cool photos :) On the way back to Koh Lipe we watched as the fisherman caught a few small fish and then head back arriving at the beach around 4.30pm. Nemo was still where we had left him and we decided that we would walk round to sunset beach before sunset and then get some food.
In true style this didnt all go as planned, we left late and the route we chose took us on a 'trek' up through the jungle / building site of the middle of the island and past a few (not very nice smelling) rubbish tips, suddenly the island didnt seem so picturesque :o( We finally hit the beach just as the sun was going down into the clouds. Time for food, or not, there wasnt actually much around that side of the island, we headed back to what looked like the main road, wrong, jungle monkey noises and more jungle a couple of quite expensive food places and then we hit what looked like the island village where all the fishermen and workers lived with their families :oD This actually worked out quite nicely we found a good place to eat with the cheapest 'large' bottles of beer we had found yet and i bought myself 1 massive prawn yum yum yum :) he wasnt that cheap 1.20 but he was about the size of my hand so i was happy! (i didnt just have that, i had a curry too)
We are heading up to Koh Lanta for a few days tomorrow so we booked our tickets 10am pickup, said bye to nemo again (meeting him at the full moon party) and got an earlish night :)
