Today we travelled from Koh Lanta to Koh Samui via Krabi (from the west coast over to the east) for the Full moon party :oD Its quite nice here, we are staying on the less touristy beach of Lamai. This is the first place where have been to where we have noticed the 'go-go' bars and massage parlours etc. that thailand is so famous for.
Koh samui's quite a large island so we all (Nemo is still with us) decided to rent a jeep for the day 800B for 24hours 16 quid (not so bad). We had a really good day tryed our hand at a bit of, what can only be described as 'off roading' :os its a very mountainous island loads to do and see but again with all the tourism and our budget its not that cheap! On the day of the jeep whilst looking for food we came across a restaurant selling Steak (not that unusual i know), 'WE COOK STEAK TO ORDER', long story short under no circumstances do i advice anyone to try and order a steak anything other than well done whilst in asia unless in a very very very posh hotel! We sent it back the 1st time saying 'cooked too much', then they sent it back having cooked it even MORE!!?!?!?!?! ARGH!!!! Third time lucky with the translation book and 3, yes, 3 waitresses checking what rare ment 'rare (pronounced with a L not an R) lare not well done..... no not well done!!!! by time we got our medium rare steaks i honestly dont think we were even hungry!
The morning of the Full moon party (March 10th) we still had the Jeep. After exploring all morning, having seen the Big Buddah, buying my 1st official Hippy Outfit and going to the post office it was time to TRY and straighten my hair and get ready for the party. We had the best Italian meal before we left for the next island where the party is held, this actually back fired on me as once we got to the party i couldn't get drunk! the party was cool, not what i had expected, very commercial with every type of music you could imagine face and body painting and lots of very messy people. We arrived at about 11pm to be greeted by a huge number of spannered people cabbaged on the beach :os met quite a few cool people and then tryed to head back to Koh Samui about 5am (not too late really) WRONG! Imagine the scene.... 5 boat companies offering 'regular' boats back to Koh Samui, one point of pick up...... no queueing system.... about 150 very drunk, sleepy english, irish, scottish and ozzy people trying to get onto boats!?!?!?! Disaster! Even Coop, plasid Coop, NEVER get mouthy Coop. had to be told to calm down, chill out and wait patiently!! We finally got home at 8am!!!!! 8am for god sake!
Personally i wouldnt recommend going to the full moon party unless you are staying on the island and have a quiet room away from the noise, get there early (its actually starts at sunset 6.30pm) so you dont miss the pre excitment and hype and youll probebly enjoy it a lot more then i did. Been to better festivals/parties in the UK ;oD
