Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Walking a short distance north from the Tomb of Timur we came to another mausoleum. I dont recall who this was for as we were seeing rather too many mausoleums and tombs over the course of the trip and only the more prominent persons such as Timur stick to mind.
Outside were parked Lada's and some monument in Russian to some more recent local person. Again I'm not familiar with who this was.
After going thru the entrance archway there was a large open area housing the single domed structure. This was smaller and more modest than other tombs we had been visiting.
I thought it would be a single tomb but there were several inside.
The wooden doorways had arabic carved writing and impressive views looking back at the Tomb of the Emir
They had large area rugs inside the tombs which seemed to nice to walk on but it was ok even in this rainy weather. Outside were other tourist shops who had taken up residence in the small alcoves and inner rooms, as was common in most historical sites
In the distance I could see more domes over the horizon and city apartment blocks. They were interesting as built in Soviet style with giant murals painted on one side
We then drove to the Registan, the most famous site in all of Uzbekistan and Central Asia
